Treating Chaos (Originally Published 7/16/2021)

Every now and then I need to recall one of my favorite affirmations when utter chaos, disappointment or fear seems to rear its ugly head along my life path. I have several that are my “go to” affirmations when I am threatened with loss (on any level) or fear has gripped me unaware:

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

– and –

“God’s got this.”

You may recognize the “I shall not want” line from the Twenty-Third Psalm. A Psalm is said to be lyrics written to help one yield to the presence of God. The 23rd Psalm was written by King David as he watched his son from a hilltop unsuccessfully attempt to take over his kingdom. I can hardly fathom the emotional pain King David must have experienced watching his own flesh and blood try to hurt him so desperately and defiantly. To help work through the pain I imagine is the reason he wrote the 23rd Psalm.

For me, I merely need to affirm: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want and instantly freedom from my self-inflicted mindset is upon me. I’ve come to understand that most of my problems are a result of me “wanting” more money, more love, more time, more employees – get the picture? The minute I recognize that my real issue is in “wanting” instead of “letting” God (Allah, Creator Source, Infinite Intelligence, Soul – you decide) be my guide I am returned to a peaceful existence – all I can really hope for; peace within the storm.

My second favorite affirmation, God’s got this, was taught to me by a wild and crazy minister some ten years ago. All I remember is that he proposed a multitude of scary scenarios that can happen in all areas of life and constantly repeated, “God’s got this!”

When I’m late, out of answers, up against evil, tested as to my faith, I need only tell myself, “God’s got this” and an immediate rush of light replaces the darkness that grips me.

Take some time to train your mind to turn to a specific affirmation(s) that resonates with you. Repeat your affirmation over and over and over for thirty days. A repetitive affirmation can become part of your subconscious mind after thirty days. Once installed on your subconscious hard drive, the affirmation will come to the forefront of your mind and bring peace to a situation that needs it.

Just sayin’!
