Results Oriented? Think Again. (Originally Published 10/7/2022)

The industrialized world in which we live is definitely results oriented. Thankfully. Otherwise, who knows if there would be food on the table, lights to see by and transportation to get places. Farmers, electricians, and auto workers must be results oriented or the world would be in chaos.

Always chasing results however can often negate one’s innate desire to live in now moments. Let’s face it, if the goal is always to accomplish, accomplish, accomplish when is one able to just…be? Is it the end result or the journey that matters? If you’re a “type A” personality like my husband, the results are all that matters. The type A personality, known to be highly competitive and self-critical are always striving, striving, striving. The type B personality, the counter personality (balance) to the type A personality is more tolerant, reflective, and relaxed. Time has little meaning for a type B personality. Is there a center point between the type A and type B personalities? Is it possible to be successful at whatever endeavor one chooses and not be a full-blooded type A minion? How can one take type A and type B personalities and help them find balance – a center point between the 2 spectrums? Answer: By looking for the individualized spirit purpose in every experience and relationship rather than only to the end result, can be the first step in finding balance.

I had this very dilemma recently with my husband. Howard offered to help me set up our display booth at a wholesale tradeshow to sell our many crystal related products to retailers. In Howard’s type A mind, the only goal is to sell product. Sell, sell, sell. Some of his ideas, although they would guarantee success, would also move to compromise my path of doing things from a more “light-filled”, unresult orientated thinking. Tugging at my heart strings is the question “was the sale of product (result) more important than compromising the feelings of the rest of the team? “I have tens of thousands of dollars invested in product that I am hoping (strong faith) will help others in their quest for conscious change and physical healing. Aren’t I obligated to myself and my husband to whatever is necessary to get a return on my investment?”

This blog will not provide an ending or resolution to my conundrum as they usually do. Every person has to “cut to the chase” in their own life journey. I may only ask what is the real end result you are looking for? Material success at the cost of spiritual reward? Spiritual jewels in one’s crown of righteousness at the cost of material reward?

The answer will be different for everyone but this I know for sure: as a spirit being having a human experience, the priorities of spirit MUST take precedence. All other activities and rewards must follow.

Thanks for letting me prattle on.
