Victim Status

If you have never hosted your own pity party, this blog is not for you. See you next Thursday! For those of you who are allured by the feeling of being a victim, come along. Time to move up the rungs a little away from the shark-infested waters that have become your playground.

Freud defined victim-mindedness as a complex, internal and often criticized perspective focused on unconscious desires. Carl Jung modernized the concept of victim-mindedness as one’s ego identifying so strongly with the victim archetype that it becomes a calcified identity- suppressing life force.

Regardless of what the professionals have to say about the psyche, everyone has felt like a victim at one point in time or another. Heck, I felt like a victim of the whims of my mother while growing up. Once in victim mode, it is often very difficult to get out, but feeling victimized, constantly in the mode of suffering or revolving in the grips of a self-defeating cycle, is not why our spirit-being-having-a-human-experience was birthed to exist. Victim-mindedness can become a habit. I watched a good friend of mine use victimhood to garner boatloads of attention as she went through a debilitating battle with cancer. She got sucked into victimhood because all of a sudden, she was the star of the show. She was a middle child with seven other siblings. While sick, everyone was doting on her. The attention was like heroin. I can’t say I blame her. Besides, who really knows the karmic bonds/ties that her family had the opportunity to work out?

Here’s what I know for sure. Anytime one feels like a victim, hears themselves say, "Why me?" or looks at others with pure envy, it’s time to create a new mindset for oneself. Yes, there really is such a thing as the victim archetype. Archetypes are personality patterns that one possesses. Some say they are like birth hormones that are with one forever. I say birthed with a victim archetype or not, there is ALWAYS an antidote for a mental and/or emotional birth defect. In fact, mental and emotional birth defects are little more than opportunities to bring light to the planet.

Repeat after me. I am a child of God. I dwell in the light of goodness. All my experiences have made me a better person, as I always see the beauty in the events in my life. Since there is no spiritual pleasure in suffering, I remember that while in suffer mode, this too shall pass. I am free, I am free, I am free, hallelujah, I’m free.

AFFIRMATION: At this moment, everything is perfect.
