Thanksgiving 2025

On Saturday, November 30th, Mark Twain would have been 190 years old. Twain died in 1910 at 74 years of age. A humorist, moralist and novelist, Twain’s writings are as timely today as they were in 1884, the year The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published. Although slavery was legally abolished in 1865, Huck's story and adventures occurred before the Civil War. Huck lived in a society of inhuman and ridiculous traditions. As the story of Huck’s adventures unfold, Huck resists the teachings intended to "civilize" him and force him into status quo thinking. The reader watches Huck's coming-of-age story in his last quest to be a better man and rise above the social injustices of his time.

Mark Twain was thought a traitor but he was simply attempting to raise the consciousness of the collective during his lifetime with his books. As eclectic a writer as possible of the times, one of his famous quotes, "Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits," best exemplifies his life.

Today, I'm giving thanks to Mark Twain. Brave, committed and determined to tell stories to make people think about what's right and what isn't. Think about someone – apart from family – who has impacted you in the past. An author, teacher, fellow worker, blogger. Take twenty seconds to be grateful. Give Thanksgiving new meaning by thinking about those others who may never have known you, but their message to you made a difference.

Gobble, gobble.

AFFIRMATION: Today, I give sincere thanks to those who bring Light to the planet.
