Hope

Unless you've been living under a rock or on an island without electricity, it's no secret that planet Earth is inundated with corruption, rebellion, untruth and darkness in every area of life. History tells us that the human condition can only tolerate so much upheaval before something drastic occurs, before the pendulum swings back toward the light. It's just how Earth is designed.

Those of us who aren't wired or paid to be hateful or hurtful are waiting for God's grace, goodness or power to step in and save us all. However, God's grace, goodness and power lie within each and every one of us. The question once spoken by President John F. Kennedy still applies: "Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country." Thankfully, I'm seeing tiny indicators that the pendulum may be shifting away from darkness.

I’m a huge fan of the shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Back-to-back game shows where contestants compete for money using their brains, quick-mindedness and a fast finger on the buzzer. Lately, I've noticed a huge shift in contestant behavior. For example, on Wheel of Fortune, losing contestants are high-fiving the winner. Even more shocking is the visual of the winning and losing players on Jeopardy, a more staid, intellectual bunch creating "group" hugs amongst them all after an episode. Really? Compassion over competition? A glimmer of hope shining through between the human collective.

Then, two days ago, I had a minor "cat claw" type of altercation standing in line in a bank. (I still like cash – where else does one go?) I could have backed down but I see backing down from truth happening everywhere. Where does it stop? Hopefully, with me. Anyway, when I came out of the bank, the lovely lady who was my "sparring mate" was waiting for me…to apologize for her rude behavior. Imagine that!? ?!*$#&*@%

I finally got the picture. There is hope and we all are the purveyors of it. Yes. Each and every one of us is uniquely designed to bring the pendulum back to the center where peace, truth, compassion, and true spiritual equality exist. A different president, world leader or monetary system will not be the only answer. We are ALL players in the game of life. Compassion over competition. Acts of love over acts of the ego. Generosity over greed. Kindness over rudeness. This list is never-ending, and neither is the embedded power for change never-ending. Be the harbinger of hope everywhere and in everything you can. God, Universal energy, Allah, provides the opportunities. I'm sure my jaw wasn't the only jaw that dropped when I saw nerdy Jeopardy players literally group-hugging on TV. Look for your own hope "indicators," sure. But more importantly, BE the hope for all to see…the example of what life on Earth can really be about.

I let the lady waiting for me outside the bank know that the world is a better place with her in it. Because of her, I'm also striving to do the things that make the world a better place. You know what they are, what you are capable of intuitively—now get on with it! Together, we can.
