Grow Where You're Planted (Originally Published 7/21/2020)

Recently I noticed 2 corn stalks growing up out of the middle of my lawn.  Really?? Corn stalks?  I have been cleaning up dried ears of corn from my yard/garden all spring.  I figured they were left over Indian corn ornaments from the previous fall that the squirrels were moving around.  I’d remove one old ear of corn and another ear would appear a week later. 

               

Two corn stalks growing in the yard – abnormally – caused me to ponder what message nature might be sending me.  I can’t imagine the energy that was required for 2 kernels of corn to sprout roots and push their way through the lush carpet of my lawn.  I can imagine however that the intention of the corn kernel is to reproduce itself and to do that, the kernel is programed to reach for the light – in this case, sun light.

               

I had to ask myself, am I reaching for the light?  I mean really reaching?  Am I settling or am I reminding myself that I am a being of huge magnitude with a mission to produce according to how I am wired.

               

Take an assessment of where you are.  Here are some places where you can “grow where you’re planted.”


·         In a job you don’t like.

·         In a loveless marriage.

·         Behind an exceptionally slow driver.

·         Where you were abandoned.

·         In prison.

·         While you are sick.

·         While dying.

·         Fired from a job.

·         While going through grief.

·         The parent of a teenager.

·         A failed business.

 

Are you growing or dying where you are planted?  The choice is yours.

 

Affirmation – I grow in the light right where I am planted.
