From Hate to Love

I don't know about you, but lately my belief system is being challenged on all fronts. One's belief system is the ideas and practices that have been gathered over a lifetime that form the foundations for everything one thinks, speaks and does. For example, I was raised a Christian. By definition, I am trained to follow the teachings of Jesus. But I am also familiar with Judaism, Hinduism and Muslim teachings. All part of my belief system.

Podcasters, politicians and new-age philosophers now all have visible platforms on which to tout their beliefs and ideas, which sometimes expand and often constrict one’s belief systems, the "go-to" for everything we do. Deep confusion has set in, however. Conflicting ideas are everywhere – too much pharma, not enough pharma. Too many illegal immigrants; everyone in the world is entitled to an American life. High cost of food; earn more to pay for it. Greed; honesty. Guilty; not guilty. What is an observer to make of all of the polar ideas being tossed out there? Are we really in a good vs evil season on the planet?

What has really rocked my boat, however, is seeing some of my good friends become users of my LEAST favorite word: hate. They are all voicing extreme hate toward opposing sides of their belief systems. Hate is a very strong emotion, especially when directed at a large group of people.

The opposite of hate is . . . okay, I'll say it. . . Love. Am I asking you to love that which you hate right now? Well, yes! Each and every one of us has the power to change the ugliness of (crime, corruption, untruth) what is everywhere with a change of one’s own mind. Now I realize to just say, "I love" rather than "I hate" even in the mind is not an easy task. I know this because I still have to consciously work at unthinking unkind thoughts about the woman who birthed me. The woman whose visible and invisible scars of childhood abuse I still carry. Here's a hint or two on how to make a difference in the world with your thinking.

Whenever you hear yourself using the "H" word, or even hear the "H" word in your head, replace it with "my belief system says God's in charge, I know the truth and the truth shall always win." Let's apply this to my feelings about my mother. She passed many years ago but her presence pops up in other ways that still stir thoughts down the "H" rabbit hole. When I feel dark or shadowy towards her, I mantra myself with. I know her presence (my belief system) was a gift from God that has driven me to become the woman I am today, and I am thankful.

Belief systems are being challenged left and right as we are cusping into the Aquarius Age. Everything from education, medicine and governing (especially governing) are on the tendrils of change. All hatred is merely a form of holding on to the past. Can any of us even afford that? The world will change when hatred is no more. Be a part of that movement. . . please, please, please.
