Fall Equinox (Originally Published 9/1/2021)

Most of us will barely notice the arrival of the fall equinox this year or any other year for that matter.  Most likely you did not take notice of the spring equinox (March 21, 2021).  Equinox is Latin for “equal night.”  In the true polar fashion of planet Earth, there are two days each year where there are exactly twelve hours of daylight and twelve hours of darkness: the spring and fall equinoxes.  Think of them as two perfectly light balanced days.

September 22, 2021 marks the fall equinox.  For most, it’s just another day.  For those of us of the mystical minded, the fall equinox offers an energetic portal to consciously remind oneself of the natural cycle of growth/harvest/death of which Earth is designed.  The fall equinox ushers in a “harvest” mindset.  Whether you consciously recognize the equinox or not, having fruits and vegetables to carry one through winter is just one of the many urges of the “reaping” season.

The season of summer is one of growth/expansion.  Seeds that were planted in the spring and nurtured throughout summer by the Sun and rain are ready to have their bounty harvested.  Farmers aren’t the only ones however who receive the “urge” to gather the fruits of their labor!  The fall equinox is also an esoteric suggestion to all non-farmers to cash in on the seeds one’s been planting in their own “fields”.  A field is defined as a region in space where some other force can be experienced.  We all have relationship fields, educational fields, wealth fields, career fields, and spiritual fields where seeds of thought and the energy of action have produced after their kind.  The fall equinox is a reminder that now is the time to take inventory on the fruits of one’s labor and take those results to the storehouse of one’s future just like the farmer puts corn in the silo to use to feed his cattle through the winter.

Perhaps your fall harvest has come up short; you don’t really feel like you’ve moved forward in any personal fields.  Not to worry.  The passing of the seasons are simple reminders of the renewal cycles that every living creature on Earth is subject to.

The message or energy of the fall or autumn equinox reminds one to embrace the change of each season to start a new.  The spring equinox is the “birthing” season.  Spring equinox is six months away.  Use the urge of the fall equinox to reap what you have sown but also, in the way of the farmer, prepare your “fields” for the next “growth” cycle.  What do you still need to learn?  Devise a list of things that your mind (a field) would like to expand in.  Then check off the items on your list when complete.

How can your relationship field expand?  What can YOU change that will make your relationships take on a new level of happiness?

Sun’s strength begins to wane with the autumn equinox.  Sun’s messaging has now moved from grow, grow, grow to winter’s coming.  Time to shut down and prepare for the next growth cycle to begin.  Before full shutdown however, you must physically and mentally prepare your mind field.  The physical rituals of cleaning out closets, attics, and garages, signing up for a class, and consciously releasing all old limiting thoughts and feelings that no longer serve one’s health and well-being are perfect activities to honor the message of the autumnal equinox.

Why not use nature’s rhythms as a reminder to get back to your own center; to consciously journey through the “wheel of the year” and shift your mind field to move towards the completion of a worthy aspiration or two.

Happy Harvesting
