Bias

Bias, the act of judgment without wisdom’s backing, is a giant wall that prevents personal growth and progress. I remember the term bias referring to race. Growing up in the sixties, I was smack dab in the middle of Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy’s fights to eradicate bias between blacks and whites.

Today, however, I have come to learn that bias is actually a dictator to the mind that can separate one from truth. Thankfully, Columbus ignored world belief or bias about the planet being square. Or how about the bias, prejudice in favor or against as it related to the infection of polio? Polio caused paralysis and death for most of history. By the 1900s, there were frequent epidemics of polio. Over half a million humans worldwide were paralyzed or dead from infectious polio in the 1940s and 1950s. The world held a bias that polio was just nature's way of population control. Thank God Jonas Salk did not buy into that bias. Except for Afghanistan and Pakistan, poliomyelitis is all but extinct on Earth.

What beliefs or emotions (biases) are you harboring that prevent you from seeing the truth or reality? The bias that all men are ________? Or all women are ________? (You fill in the blank.) Any bias (unwise judgment) that has been taught (told) to you IS NOT YOUR THOUGHT. Why stand behind it? I, for one, was always told by parents, teachers and spouses that I was a lousy writer. For almost sixty years, I bought into that. I've published nine books and written over 1,000 blogs. I may be lousy, but I've had a great time writing. Someone else's bias was floating around in my psyche.

Well, no more! You, too, can remove those biases that have been planted in YOUR head that are preventing a smoother ride into your future.

Preconceived notions be gone! Identify just one little idea (bias) that lurks in your head. Use it in the below affirmation and review it every day for thirty days to remove the bias so that the truth of the big picture permeates your thinking.

Conscious change YOUR way towards more light filled experiences.
