Spiritual Transformation
In any effort of transformation, whether it be in a physical, mental or emotional realm, the secret is to consciously transform the issue from a material aspect to a spiritual pursuit. In other words, what is the learning lesson in the drama/trauma at hand at the moment?
I am in the process of selling off some of my real estate assets in a move to lessen the angst that comes with owning rental properties. I recently spent over thirty thousand dollars renovating a property I held for over twenty years. The house was one of my best rehab jobs yet. I priced it higher than comparable sales indicated (about 20k higher) with no sales luck. Granted, the property went on the market in December – a slow-selling period by its nature.
By mid-February, I was getting two showings a week. Except for two blood-thirsty investor offers (smelling an unsold house that was on the market for more than two months) came rolling in that were too low. I did not receive any offers from real user-buyers. Finally, by mid-March I received an offer from Realtor Jeff's client. She absolutely loved the house, BUT (isn't there always a but in there somewhere?) she had to sell her house first. To me, a seasoned real estate professional, a buyer with a house to sell first is a wanna-be buyer and not a real "cash in fist" buyer.
By the end of March, I took the property off the sales market and put it up for lease. A vacant property for sale for too long is never a good idea. This change made a total of three properties that I had on the market for lease.
A strange thing happened. The two other properties leased up in a matter of ten days with at least ten “I want to rent” lookers interested. Yet not even one looker made an application for my beautifully rehabbed house. The material aspect for me was that I needed to convert this asset to income producing. I heard myself asking, "Why isn't Harrison leasing?" Asking God why something isn't happening that I "want" is the important first step to transforming a material need into spiritual results. Listening, I mean really listening to the answer, is even more important than the question. What did I hear? "I have a plan. Wait. Be open-minded."
Well, I had a plan. However, so did Creator Source. Two weeks into the property being on the leasing market, Jeff called me. His buyer wants the house and she will list hers for sale if I will take an offer that says she will buy the house IF she sells hers. Madam buyer is in her own material/spiritual quagmire. Her issue? Fear. Her solution? Faith. The bank has already told her she could qualify for a bridge loan to help her close on my house while still trying to sell hers. I know from experience that the fear that she will never sell her house is stronger than her faith that God’s got this.
I decided to wait on a plan other than what I devised and left the property on the leasing market without angst about the outcome. At least I am at peace.
So, what's the message? I'll take the spirit road, the road that knows that all things work together if one applies faith, order, zeal, love, wisdom, understanding and various other spiritual energies to life's traumas and dramas. I'll patiently wait. Maybe the real buyers’ old house isn't on the market yet. Maybe the perfect tenant for me isn't ready to move yet. The list is endless in maybes to keep my faith going, I'm using this opportunity to lean into and stretch my patience to new levels and my faith to even higher next levels. At the writing of this blog there has been no resolution. However, the foundation for faith was not built in a day.
Material expansion or spiritual expansion? The choice is always ours, making the outcomes of our own making as well. Ain’t that great?

Writers note: After 30 days on the leasing market, I received, out of the blue, a call from a real estate agent who was calling to see what happened to the house. I told him I had put it on the leasing market. He said he had a buyer and would I consider selling. Would I consider selling?????? We had a closing 3 weeks later. God’s timing??? You decide.
