Who doesn't want to wake up to a life where everything is hunky dory? The weather is fabulous, and the perfect outfit for the day is clean and ironed. The keys to the car are even where they should be. Even two out of the three would make a great day. But most often, Universe has another plans for this day. Rats!
Spiritual growth, defined as moving along the continuum of love, peace, and harmony – well, you get the gist – is the only reason for one's existence on the planet. Your experience of love, peace and harmony adds light to the planet. Planet light is important to help ward off evil. (Remember, we live on a planet polarized by good and evil.) The spirit-being-having-a-human-experience is either spending time being the catalyst for the spiritual growth of others by being unkind, selfish, greedy etc., OR being on the receiving end of said un-spirit-like activity (anger, greed, resentment, blah blah). When on the receiving end of un-spirit activity, it is imperative to call upon honing one's forgiveness, faith, love, wisdom, strength, etc., skills that cause help move past the emotions of others who are behaving unspirit like. Otherwise, spiritual growing pains kick in and pain is ….. well pain just not of the physical kind.
Almost always, spiritual growing pains are the result of a relationship with some other person. In fact, our relationships with others are deeply fettered in the personal development of those life skills of the spirit kind.
Some relationships cause spiritual growing pains: betrayal by a trusted friend, dealing with a demented spouse, a disrespectful child, an overbearing parent, a bully, a cheat, a cheating spouse, death of anyone, bankruptcy, and so forth. In other words, any event that brings on angst, fear, loss or hurt while in relationship is a spiritual growing pains event.
Some of us live lives with minimal spiritual growing pains, while others are bedecked by them. While some get more growing pain opportunities is not easily explained if you want an answer I suggest that you to put it on the "questions to ask when I meet up with God" list. Some of us are born with great strength, courage and wisdom. They are usually the ones with the toughest spiritual challenges. Go figure.
To speed up the pain process or said another way, to cut to the chase of the lesson, stop and ask that power greater than yourself: “Heavenly Father/Mother God, what is my lesson in this experience?” If one is earnest in their request, the answer will come. When you hear the answer, it could be to become more faith-filled or patient or compassionate, etc., take heed. Then, turn on those spirit gifts we were all born with and BE more faith-filled, patient or compassionate.
Or you can continue doing it your way. How’s that working for you?
AFFIRMATION: I lean into my spiritual growing pains.
