Magnesium

The human body requires a perfect balance of 22 elements from the Periodic Table of Elements to ensure maximum operating efficiency. The perfect “balance” of elements however looks different for everyone. In other words, there is no exact formula of “the perfect” ratio of one element to another that will work for every human being’s body. DNA has everything to do with how the body uses and processes the 22 necessary elements.

A 41-year-old woman woke up in the middle of the night feeling awful. A trip to the ER at the hospital revealed her BP was 170/114, way off where it should be. Lovely Lina was born with a heart murmur. In her late 20’s after childbirth Lina acquired BP issues and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy a commonly inherited heart disorder that responds well to betablocker treatments.

Besides a small adjustment to Lina’s meds and after viewing the results of Lina’s blood work, (although there is no real blood test that can assess magnesium levels in the body) the hospital doctor started a magnesium drip and within several hours Lina felt fabulous.

Magnesium (Mg) number 12 on the Periodic Table of Elements is involved in over 300 physiological metabolic reactions in the human body. One of magnesium’s purposes is building and maintaining the structure of muscles and bones.

Magnesium is also a key player in the health of the Immune System. The Digestive System uses Magnesium to help sugars and fats break down and metabolizes/processes all the nutrients taken in when one eats.

Every organ in the body needs magnesium for maximum health which may explain why the best way to get magnesium into the body is with foods: almonds, cashews, dark chocolate, bananas, broccoli, sunflower seeds, figs, flaxseed, peas, kidney beans, edamame, corn, water, peanut butter, halibut, tuna, pumpkin, yogurt, molasses, raisins, oatmeal, and coconut oil.  Magnesium is the central element in chlorophyll. Green leafy vegetables are a great source of magnesium.

And while we are talking about food, there are foods that antagonize or offer resistance (polarize) Magnesium’s ability to function in the body: Sugar, processed foods, high calcium diets, cooked spinach, excessive nuts and grains and high concentrations of protein to name a few.

Low levels of Magnesium in the body can express as migraines, diabetes, hypoglycemia, numbness, incoherent speech and in Lovely Lina’s case above, cardiovascular interruptions.

Magnesium is considered a relaxing, sedating element. Muscle cramping may indicate magnesium deficiency. Magnesium also can metabolize cholesterol levels. Too much Magnesium can be as disruptive to the body as too little. Low urine output with high liquid intake might indicate the body is overdosed with magnesium.

Magnesium is also found in the ocean and as the main element in many crystals: Atlantisite, Bronzite, Chrysolite, Diopside, Dolomite Franklinite, Healerite, Hornblende, Iolite, Jades, Lepidolite, all Obsidians except Green Obsidian, Olivine, Peridot, Pinolite, Lazulite Quartz, Red Garnet, Rhodolite, Sandstone, Serpentine, Shungite, Spinel, Stichtite, all Tourmalines except red and black, Vesuvianite and Vivianite to name a few. All Fluorites, because of their high calcium content should be avoided if one is experiencing magnesium metabolizing issues.

This writer always suggests that you muscle test when adding a new food to your diet. Although the above foods are excellent sources of Mg, they also carry other elements that may alter the delicate balance of those 22 bodily elements.

Visit a crystal apothecary shop and take note of the crystals you are naturally attracted to. Check to see if the crystals are on the above list. Muscle test for crystal compatibility. A positive muscle test result may indicate the magnesium crystal’s vibrational frequency will be helpful to your body’s elemental health.
