In 2007, I began writing Sacred Relationship as a part of my “Sacred” Series (Sacred Grief, Sacred Prosperity, and Sacred Space). Sacred Grief was the first one I wrote. Sacred Relationship was the second one I started, and the rough draft is still sitting in the large green leather bag I carry around when I travel, hoping the “spark” to finish it will ignite me.
At odds with myself over the subject matter, I regularly pray for guidance to finish Scared Relationship and put the Sacred Series to bed. I feel like there’s an important aspect to relationships that I’m either not seeing or not experiencing that has prevented me from finishing. A Soul message that I’m not able to fully connect with yet.
For the last six months, the burning question in my mind has been, “What is love?” I felt like I had not earned the right to write a book on relationships until I knew exactly what love is. After all, the other three “Sacred” books all had their root in the success of my experiences with grief, prosperity, and Soul connecting.
I’m not surprised that I yearn to know and understand more about love. I am a Leo. Born in August. Every sign of the horoscope has archetypal energy that the person born under that sign is here to learn, master, and then teach. For those interested in what this statement means to you, I’ve listed the following life paths for each astrological sign.
Aries – Zeal
Taurus – Faith
Gemini – Hope
Cancer - Strength
Leo – Love
Virgo – Spoken Word
Libra – Imagination
Scorpio – Understanding
Sagittarius – Wisdom
Capricorn – Will
Aquarius – Release
Pisces – Life Force
After at least six months of constant focus on the question, “What is love?” my answer came in a casual conversation with a high school social worker who my neighbor is. She related the following story to me:
“My twenty-seven-year-old son had been dating his girlfriend for two years. By that age, everyone, including myself, has asked him, ‘When will you get married?’ One day my son comes to me and asks me, ‘How will I know the woman I pick to marry will always make me happy?’ My answer was when you are always happy seeing to her needs, whatever they are, you will know that she is the right person to marry.” Voila! Love defined.
Seeing to the needs of others with a happy heart. WOW! Could it be that simple? You decide. Examine your relationship—every relationship. Love’s expression isn’t meant just for familial relationships, marriages, friends, teams, neighbors, etc. Listening to an elderly person repeat their stories over and over is seeing to their need. Seeing to the need of a stranded motorist can leave you with a loving feeling. An anonymous donation to your favorite charity is seeing to the needs of others. Giving with an open heart—there’s nothing like releasing some of what is yours to help others.
This Valentine’s Day, seek at least five different ways to help someone. Something. Some cause with a happy heart. Be sure a stranger is in that mix somewhere. We were born with all the love we will ever need; the secret is to give it away.
I guess I’m going to dig out that big green leather bag. Look out, world, Sacred Relationship might be on the way after all. Happy Love Day.
Affirmation: Seeing to the needs of others brings me joy.
