Instinct or Reason (Originally Published 6/29/2022)


I recently watched a special on elephants that was absolutely amazing. The feature was on the birth of twin elephants. Apparently, elephant twin births are extremely rare. The commentator tells us that baby elephants are extremely needy of their mother’s milk and that one baby elephant is taxing enough upon the mother’s milk producing ability; two baby elephants feeding on one mother is usually a death sentence for the weakest of the twin elephants.

           

The program further went on to show seven other female elephants all becoming surrogate mothers to the twins to protect, feed and teach the twins in an effort to “protect the furtherance of the species.” Really? Did they read that in a book? Did grandmother elephant, the leader of the herd call a committee meeting to discuss how many baby elephants are needed to ensure survival of the species and ask for elephant volunteers to have babies?

           

Hardly! All earth animals except for humans operate on instinct: the tendency of an organism to have a powerful motivation or impulse to environmental stimuli WITHOUT INVOLVING THE POWER OF REASON.           

           

Reason? So, is the power of reasoning is behind what deters the human being from acting as the spirit beings we humans were actually created as? Reason is merely justification for an action. Why are humans imbued with the power of reason and animals are not? Does this mean one should be listening to our spirit self, the mind-body that is permanently linked to Soul consciousness but cannot act independently of the conscious mind and emotion channels instilled in the human psyche?

           

In the elephant documentary, a very young twin elephant was feeding in a swamp when he lost his balance in the muck and flipped over, slowly sinking without the ability to get himself upright. Immediately five adult females came to his rescue attempting to use those wonderful winding trunks to bring him out of the muck and mire. Instead, the weight and volume of the five elephants only made things worse. Instinctively three out of the five elephants backed away. Eventually the two adults reversed the sinking twin’s situation, and all was well. How did the three elephants that backed away “reason” to themselves (over their need to help, be a hero, etc.) that THEY needed to back out? The scene that seemed to last ten or fifteen minutes was chaotic. The other twin elephant appeared and made matters worse by trying to help as well. Who was in charge? Who was the leader? Only answer…instinct.

           

I cannot believe that Creator Source would give animals more ability to cope on Earth than human beings. For the human being, intuition is our instinct. Reasoning is the block to hearing intuition. Logical thinking is based in reasoning/deducing power.

           

Just for the next week, try to use one of the most powerful forces available to the spirit-being-having-a-human-experience: intuition. Ask your Soul connection when faced with a problem for guidance rather than the logical reasoning mind. Just seven short days. I guarantee you will be blown away by the results. Won’t you give this different way of resolving issues a chance to bring about a new way of living? For yourself?
