Hung by the Tongue

Updated: Jan 29

The tongue performs some very important physiological services such as speaking, breathing, food/beverage tasting and swallowing. A conglomeration of nerves and muscles that communicates with the brain 24/7 (yes, the tongue is even at work during sleep.) This is the good news. Like everything on Earth, there’s a light and shadow side to the human tongue. In fact, one can easily be hung by their own tongue. Impossible, you say? Read on!

The tongue is connected by nerves to a part of the brain that operates autonomously without thought. Yet, the tongue has great power – the potential to create light or bring on darkness. Even though many recognize the power of the spoken word, especially when consciously used in affirmation or manifestation statements, few people to this day connect the REAL power behind their spoken words and often become hung by their own tongue.

What one says – tongue involved – creates one's reality. Constantly expressing your complaints verbally? Rest assured, everything one complains about becomes their continuous reality. A neighbor of mine is always complaining about the Board of Directors, the management company and the quarterly dues of the Homeowner's Association. Consequently, he is always upset. Every little HOA nuance takes away his joy. I'm not particularly fond of HOAs myself, BUT I know that an HOA's job is far and away from pleasing me and my pocketbook.

One of my favorite hung-by-the-tongue antics is when people “claim” sickness: my cancer, my stomach ache, my kidney stone. It is the Universe's good pleasure to ultimately provide what one claims as truth. That is why a properly worded affirmation … I am, it is, my… is so powerfully successful.

So, how does one ultimately take charge of the flappable tongue? The first step is to recognize the problem. What are you claiming with the tongue? Can you imagine the power of changing the word "my" for the word "the" in the above statements to the kidney stone or the cancer?

The words one speaks create one's mood, prosperity, love life, health, happiness, and so much more. Listen to the words the tongue is wagging. Is cancer really yours? Is the HOA really bad or are the goals of the HOA just different from yours? The words one speaks about others are actually a mirror of something that is lacking in the speaker. Having the tongue rattle out loud that someone is cheap or homely means it's time to check one's own spending habits or look in the mirror.

The tongue may be autonomous from the brain but be assured there is some extremely powerful, mystical force guiding it. Examine your spoken words with a better understanding of the tongue’s power over outcomes. An average tongue weighs about 2.5 ounces. That’s a lot of power for such a featherweight, isn’t it?

AFFIRMATION: All my words create sentences that are light-filled.
