Guard Your Senses

You wouldn't drink down a glass of high-octane gasoline, would you? Of course not. Most likely, the result would be death. So why, then, do you tolerate secondhand smoke (smell), processed foodstuff (taste), non-natural material clothing (touch), loud abusive noises (sound), or extended screen time (sight)?

Any abuse of the five senses is quite simply an abuse of the brain. The brain is designed to message the endocrine system (the immune system's series of glands at work 24/7 to ensure the health and preservation of the body) when a foreign substance (smoke, loud noises, blue light, food additives, inorganic cloth) intertwines with the electromagnetic field of the body. Too much overabuse and the sense becomes dulled to avoid processing the “unnatural” exposure.  Dull senses mean a dulled immune system.  Is that what you are really going for? We all know what happens when anything is over-abused. It wears out. Newsflash: there is no such thing as a brain transplant – at least, not yet.

It's okay to say no to secondhand smoke, processed food and loud noises. These things blatantly violate the senses. However, more discipline is required to control screen time and be a little pickier about what clothing and sheets you let rub on your skin.

Take charge of your environment. Trust thy senses (if you haven't killed them off yet) to guide you on the road into old age with grace and vigor. Science can fix most sensory loss with glasses, hearing aids, pharma, and creams, but there are no brain replacements. The senses are portals to the brain. Guard them accordingly.
