Clockwork Orange

Everywhere I look, I’m seeing orange pop up: car colors, clothing, and advertising. Colors trend just like fashion trends.

Colors have their own energetic personalities. Color wavelengths contain bits of information that travel through the eyeballs, read by the retina, and then is translated into useful bytes of information by the brain. Color data sparks feelings, options, and messages to all the physical body’s operating systems. Advertisers have a very clear understanding of the power of color to persuade the subconscious mind to stimulate an action to purchase their products. As a spirit being having a human (material) existence, “color messaging” affects the human being both in the material and spiritual realms in which we live. Color messaging can be read by the body to stimulate blocked energy or as a sedative to calm excess energy.

Physically, the color energy of orange aids the body in food assimilation. On a mental level, the color orange can ignite the imagination as orange is deemed to be mentally expansive. Emotionally, orange offers self-indulgence. On the spiritual journey, orange is the portal to the experience that there is a power greater than oneself to consider.

If there were one keyword to describe orange’s place in the scheme of things, it would be “self.” Orange is always messaging to the mind-bodies to become aware of “self.” As the color of resonance for chakra 2, orange carries the urge to discover one’s many selves. Too much orange stimulation can lead to selfishness, self-indulgence and the “it’s all about me” syndrome. Conversely, not enough exposure to orange can lead to low self-esteem; fear of everything and a life based upon superficial choices.

Fortunately, orange (as does every other color) contains a subconscious power driver that can move one toward the ethereal side of every experience. Orange’s place between the intensity of red and the aliveness of yellow (orange is the mixture of red and yellow) offers learning opportunities to teach one to embrace the infinite polar spectrums of one’s own experiences in the moment.

During the preparation of this blog, a robin landed on my roof, where I could clearly see her beautiful bright orange breast. I am reminded by Ted Andrews’ book Animal Speak that the robin’s orange breast suggests the activation of the creative Life Force. The majority of the flowers I planted this spring were orange. I can’t ever recall planting orange flowers before.

As the world moves through the completion of another historic 100-year plague, orange is the perfect color to spark a playful and optimistic shift towards those activities that have been voided out of so many lives over the past twenty-four months. Orange is rejuvenating and can add that perfect energy boost that has been lying in wait to express itself. Perhaps that’s why there are new orange cars, orange clothes and orange print colors everywhere. 

You can add an energy boost to your physical mind body by eating orange foods like yams, oranges, sweet potatoes, mangos, and cantaloupe. Why not add an orange tie, scarf, or sweater to your wardrobe to channel in orange’s rejuvenating messaging as well?

Caution: too much of any color can be just as harmful as not enough of one color, causing an imbalance for the color psyche. Too much orange can play out as selfish or self-centered behavior. Orange can be balanced by blue, just as too much blue can be balanced by orange. Colors play an important role in how one thinks, acts, spends money etc.
