Changing Those Patterns (Originally Published 9/6/20223)

One of my mentees has had an eighteen-year history with corporate greed. At last, corporate greed has been integral in her finally being able to find her true passion in complete alignment with her birth archetypes. Allow me to explain.
LeAnn, now in her late sixties, has worked three main jobs in her life all of which had the same consequential ending: resentment, resentment, resentment. In LeAnn’s eyes, it was those nasty, selfish, cheap corporations’ fault for her unhappiness. I would contend those nasty, selfish, cheap corporations were LeAnn’s “school of learning”. Not all of us take eighteen years to “get it”. Most of us take at least a lifetime.
LeAnn’s first “class” on establishing her self-confidence to live her truth was with the largest retailer on Earth, at the time. As a personal shopper, LeAnn quickly became the best personal shopper in the company. You see, one of Leann’s chief archetypes is “caregiver”. Someone with a strong caregiver archetype (usually codependent wives, helicopter moms, nurses) are excellent at selflessly seeing to the needs of others. LeAnn’s caregiver archetype allowed her to instantly tune into her customers’ needs, which related to her high sales volume.
For LeAnn the end of her career at this retailer was ugly. Her success at sales along with the commission-structure of her contract produced a high income for her that almost matched the salary of the store manager. Eventually the manager reduced LeAnn’s commission rate and took away a few “support” services they provided her. Ever give someone something and then take it away? Resentment.
LeAnn worked another corporate job for a national laboratory company drawing blood. Her dedication and organizational skills quickly escalated her position with the company into management but at no additional pay. Constantly denied raises and requested vacation time, this job too ended w/LeAnn’s resignation and a giant hill of resentment.
The most recent job LeAnn signed on for was to transport specimens between hospitals and lab. In LeAnn’s mind the job was just what the doctor prescribed. Get in a car and drive for eight hours a day. What could be easier?
At first, LeAnn was pleased. There was no corporate BS, no manager jealousy, no one lording over her. It again wasn’t long before LeAnn’s high work ethic was recognized. Soon, LeAnn was conscripted to complicated and long runs. Her commitment to a job well done recognized by all. But certainly not respected. LeAnn began to complain about the quality of the cars she was later assigned to. Dirty, badly maintained. Even dangerous… bad wiper blades, bald tires, non-working radio systems. When confronted with the issues, her supervisor blamed corporate and the budgeting process. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when LeAnn requested three days’ vacation three months into the future and was told there was a vacation freeze that month. She could take the time but could not get paid. “Budget issues you know”.
It was difficult for LeAnn to enter the hospital lobby (the parent company for her division), see the extravagant money spent on art and furnishings and hear that they “couldn’t fix the cars” and “there’s no money in the budget that month to pay for vacations”. LeAnn’s response? You guessed it: resentment, resentment, resentment. Sheesh! Do you think LeAnn’s ever going to get it. Will LeAnn’s life be destined to the work-resentment-work-cycle until she dies?
As her conscious change coach, we zeroed in on LeAnn’s archetypes. Her strongest archetype is caregiver. Leann was applying her custodial protector strengths to all her previous jobs. Why not apply them in a place where she called the shots? Provide her services for someone who would respect and honor her talents and for a cause that would bring her joy. A recent discussion revealed that LeAnn was her father’s caregiver for nine years. She loved doing it. Was good at it and would love to help the elderly live through their last days and years.
Boom! Is this blog about corporate greed? No-although it can show the role of corporate greed in one’s evolution. This blog is about recognizing the patterns we as spirit-beings having-a-human-experience have that require changing so that a happier existence can be had.
LeAnn’s pattern was looking to be appreciated and respected for her hard work ethic and achievement along with making her employer more profitable. In the scheme of things, large corporations are not designed that way. Profits first. People second. Thankfully the new Aquarian Age we are cusping into will not allow that corporate archetype to continue and flourish. Corporations that don’t change and put people first will crumble and die but that is the subject for another blog.
See yourself anywhere here? LeAnn’s salvation came when she saw that the cycle of experiencing resentment over and over was the TRUE lesson for her. There is no need for judgement and resentment about how LeAnn’s past employers treated her, used her for their benefit or ever denied paying for her work. She signed up for that. Why was she expecting different results?
What have you signed up for that you resent? Resentment is a cancer for the mental and emotional mind-bodies. Like any one of the seven deadly sins of which resentment is one, we are all by design wired to overcome those dark emotions and Soulfully guided to take steps that can eliminate the precursor to resentment: greed, jealousy, fear… well you get the picture.
Everyone has a bout w/resentment at least once in their life. For me it’s a constant demon. Stand Up! Move On! See resentment for what it really is... an opportunity to grow and become part of the “light” movement all of us alive at this time are charged with.
Whew!
