Howard and I were on our way from the parking lot of Key West's tiny airport when we spotted two adults around mid-forties and a young lad, maybe twelve. What was so eye-catching was that all three of them were flashily dressed in red, white, and blue, carrying large balloons depicting American flags. Their smiles and enthusiasm appeared to form an aura around them. Standing next to them, waiting for our daughter-in-law to alite from her plane, I inquired as to their story.
We initially thought one of their kids was returning from basic training on leave. Our premise couldn't be farther from the truth! They were a Cuban family. “Mom” told me that aboard the plane they were all waiting on was their twenty-one-year-old son they had not seen in their teen years was finally able to escape from Cuba by way of Nicaragua. “My son walked for three months, caravan style, from Nicaragua and entered Texas”. He was processed and then flew to Miami and, ultimately, Key West, where the family has lived for over 13 years. The reunion was so emotionally charged that I teared up (I am still tearing up just writing this!), unable to meet our expected guest dry-eyed.
All of a sudden, a new thought blasted my brain. I'm all for legal immigration. My attitude comes from the Cuban population in the Keys… "We did it legally, and so should everyone else." I can't even fathom walking out of my life, leaving almost everything behind, let alone a seven-year-old son! What could be so bad to leave everything you love and cherish, material and human alike, for an unknown future? The thought is so daunting I don't even want to fill my mind with visions of the possibilities.
It's easy to sit on a couch and watch people invade our resources, overload the medical facilities, and see the huge political shift that illegal immigration may be bringing to the country as we know it. And make no mistake, immigration laws are being broken and disregarded. Who knows where that folly will take us? However, what I witnessed in that airport brought a severe change of consciousness. Another reminder that what man uses for his own personal gain, God uses for good.
Two Cuban-born residents dressed to the "nines" in patriotic American garb waiting for the arrival of a son held hostage by a government for thirteen years. I cannot fully wrap my mother’s arms around the fact that they hadn't loved on him for thirteen years. What is the Universe saying here?
I am reminded that we are cusping into a new age, dawning into a new era of brotherly love, unbound by convention where all the collective's differences will be joyfully and peacefully celebrated. I, for one, was transformed in that Key West airport by the love the Cuban family publicly shared for all of us to see and be a part of. Illegal immigration is happening. For all intent and purpose, it appears illegal immigration is a political tool. However, the real questions are, how is God using this for good, AND can I be part of the process?
I pray that you, too, can be part of God's plan for our country…the greatest country in the world where freedom reigns.
My mindset has been permanently altered to wait on God's plan of love and light for the planet, not just the good ole US of A. Let's collectively join in loving thought so the change/transition of our subdivision, city, state, country, and planet will be light-filled and not shadow-filled.
Oh… the power we have!
AFFIRMATION: All my thoughts about anything political has light as its foundation.
