Equity (Originally Published 8/6/2021)

I’ll admit it.  I’m really confused.  I keep hearing racial equity, financial equity, and global equity.  I’ve been in the real estate business over 40 years.  To me equity is something that happens over time as a result of specific efforts put forth.  Let me explain.

I am in the process of selling a rental house on Anita I’ve owned since 2004.  I paid $109,000 for it.  Between 2004 and 2018, we installed a new roof, new windows, granite counter tops and had the wood floors redone.  All of these improvements helped to create “equity” in the property.  If other houses in the neighborhood do not continue to make improvements to their property their equitable value will decrease.

In order for me to get the highest price possible when selling Anita, I am also putting in a new garage door with an electric opener, a new air conditioning unit, having the house and basement painted, installing a new vanity, changing out all electrical plugs and switches, redoing the landscaping and installing a beautiful new front door.  I expect to sell Anita for $225,000. Subtracting the $109,000 I paid for the house and approximately $40,000 in improvements, I will have created equity in the amount of $76,000, as result of efforts put forth.

My confusion lies in someone feeling like they should have equity because of the color shin they were born with or the gender their bodies host.

It would seem to me that a portion of the human collective is trying to impose their will or desire for equality upon a planet that is designed and operates on anything BUT equality.  Let’s consider nature for a moment, more specifically Earth’s calamities.  Are California’s raging forest fires offering a fair shake to everyone on the planet?  Do east coast hurricanes bring fairness to all those who lose their “equity” when they hit.  Recently in my state a tornado came through a small town and completely annihilated only one house.  Is that equitable?

The animal kingdom belies even more inequity.  The hawk in my yard is having a field day with the baby rabbits around.  The ducks are eating the swarms of fish flies that have just risen from the lake.  The carp are eating snails, insects, worms, and fish eggs (thanks for this info to firebob.com).  Does this look equitable?  Just ask baby rabbits, fish flies, snails, insects, worms and fish eggs.  I think you will get a resounding “no” from questioning them all.

If you look in the dictionary, one of equity’s definition is “fairness or impartiality”.  How can a fraction of human beings ever hope to impose their idea of equity onto a planet whose very design is that of inequity?  It is the fish fly’s job to feed all the water fowl and new born fish in the spring time.  An abundance of baby rabbits would destroy all plant growth.  The hawk’s presence equals out the overpopulation of rabbits-brings balance if you will to planetary rabbit over-run.  Earth is designed, through nature to take care of all imbalances.  You think it’s an accident that the west coast has fire issues and the east coast water (hurricane) issues?  In the big picture, water and fire balance each other, atmospherically providing weather equity.

The only equity humans can forcibly bring to the table is on their own heart and minds.  I have hot and cold running water.  I try to remember to express gratitude to God every day for that blessing of water at my fingertips when I want it.  However, there are places in Africa and other parts of the world where water is still brought into the home daily by jugs getting filled from the community well.  Stopping the water works department of my community so that African communities can have water in their communities is not only not the answer but logically would never ever be possible.

Do we take all the meat of a steer for example and instead of offering for sale a fillet, strip stake, chuck roast, sirloin etc., just grind it all up into one “pile of meat” so that steer meat is equitable for all?

The recent cry for equity or equality is a human force to eradicate God’s plan.  If the creator intended for everything to be equal we would all look alike, be born with the same level of intelligence, everything like clothes, housing and food would just magically appear without effort.

No, the duality spectrum which definitely has its root in inequality has a huge purpose on planet Earth.  The pull of opposites is the energy that supports all of life.  Tension, the result of the pull of opposites can be an awesome direction signal that growth or change is needed to move one to the next level.  Every being born on Earth is responsible to take their life on the spiritual path of light.  Legislation of the legal kind can try but will NEVER succeed in bringing balance to what may “appear” to be inequity.  The human condition will improve as human’s come to see their individual birth circumstances as part of God’s plan.  When every individual decides to donate part of their hard-earned money to help Africa’s water fight, or donate time to build houses to help those that don’t have them or to serve as leaders to help others with an open heart and not a personal agenda will our planet begin to feel equity.  Equity-a result of time and effort towards an agreed upon purpose-not the forceful taking from one to give to another.  Nowhere does it state that life is fair.  In fact-life just doesn’t seem fair at all.  In the big picture however, it is easy to see that God’s plan isn’t fairness, God’s Plan is to see what one can do with what they were born with in a loving, non-aggressive, Jesus sort of way.  Accept the things you cannot change with joy.  Move forward using all the spirit skills that are available to ANYONE walking this planet,

Affirmation: I see God’s plan at work in my life and for that of the global collective.
