The Placebo Effect

Updated: Feb 4

It was over two hundred years ago that the idea of the placebo effect was scientifically demonstrated. It may be the first scientific proof of the power of intention setting. The British doctor (John Haygarth), who coined the term "placebo," was proving the power of the brain and its belief system to influence the body. However, even earlier, back in the late 1500s, doctors prescribed useless potions that had physical effects, using suggestive words to hark their healing abilities.

Here we are over 500 years later, and the human collective still fails to understand the mind-powers human beings possess as they relate to the power of intention.

Studies of the placebo effect were intensified during World War II when anesthesiologist Henry Beecher observed that many wounded soldiers, especially those dealing with pain, anxiety or depression, were greatly helped when issued a "sugar pill" and told the pain, anxiety, or depression would be healed. Here we are, some eighty years later, and the human being is still looking to outside sources (drugs, the words of others, potions, etc.) for a successful life.

We set intentions unconsciously every day. Our calendar is an intention. Our stomach requires intentions to eat. Subconsciously, we create an intention for our day in the style of the clothing we wear. We even set intentions when we decide to feel good, healthy, grumpy, sad, joyful --- yadda. All somewhat unconscious intentions.

What about a conscious intention?

Vibral thoughts fuel conscious intentions. Vibral thoughts are desires (mostly unconscious) that become powerful when fused together with an energetic factor (vibration)such as passion or enthusiasm. For example, an intention to be a more loving person, when fueled by a vision of being in a loving give/take relationship, can manifest. Who can't be more loving? But what about an intention to write a book, be skinny, or find a cure for cancer?

The minds of man are still a mystery to modern science. Science says, how can one think/believe something and then it manifests? The reason is because we humans dwell as spirit-beings-having-a-human/earthly experience. As spirit beings, we have command of a spirit power. That spirit power, best coined by James Allen in the title of his tiny book, As a Man Thinketh…so it is. Said another way, as one intends, so it is.

The Placebo Effect – the revealer of human potential. Think it and watch it manifest. But don’t believe me. Take an unaccomplished desire and craftily write it down. Perhaps it’s to get a law degree or eat healthy. It may be to end an addiction or be more generous. Create your intention on paper, follow up with several affirmations, and then listen to Soul for the actions you are to follow to have the intention manifest. Intention – Action – Patience. Let me know how your intentions manifest. Be open to recognizing the success of your intentions. We are creating intentions every day with the words we speak. Be aware that your complete life has been the result of your intentions. Yours or the planted intentions of others. Think not? Just ask those WWII veterans who received their intentions by a doctor who ran out of morphine.

The Placebo Effect: Think it so, and it is. Quite simple, really, and yet – so abstract.

AFFIRMATION: As I think, I am.
