Recurring Grief (Originally Published 11/9/2021)

Grief is not an emotion. It’s a healing event. When the event of grief strikes, know that it always contains seeds of opportunity to re-experience old lingering emotions, and some new emotions never felt before. The event of grief can create a huge heart crater that requires a conscious effort to close.

Grief never goes away but, it can be transmuted into usable energy that promotes light. I said “can” because transforming energy from grief takes effort, just like the effort necessary to bring about any change. My closest friend revealed to me recently that she realized that the recent loss of her sassy and furry friend Marina recently hit a hot button of grief-past for her. My friend’s mother died suddenly 27 years earlier and the issues of that loss reared up with a vengeance when canine Marina passed away. It was as if there was no time between the death of Mom and Marina when the grief over Marina’s loss struck.

Further surfacing for my friend were huge glops of resentment towards anything and everything. The fact is that the event of grief is meant to serve the human self along an enlightened path. My friend let me know that once she identified that she was still experiencing grief from her Mom’s loss 27 years ago she was able to begin the emotional healing opportunity that her grief presented. The appearance of any shadow emotions that are not usual and customary such as fear, anger, resentment, etc., can be reminders to oneself that one is out of center.

When one is out of center all physical, emotional and mental chaos breaks loose. Oft times creating and working with a light-filled intention followed by affirmations can help move one from chaos to peace.

An affirmation such as “at this moment everything is perfect” can literally change the atmosphere around you. With a change in atmosphere comes a change of mind and heart. Working through grief is nothing more than a change of mind. An acceptance of the things you cannot change. Adding another light-filled affirmation such as “grief shows me a path of change” or “grief is the perfect portal to experience light” can also charge the emotional and mental energy bodies towards light filled experiences where the mental and emotional mind-bodies dwell.

Go ahead and say it out loud: at this moment everything is perfect. If you are unable to actually verbalize this you have just discovered your next affirmation.

My friend told me that her attitude changed when she went back to Sacred Grief, A Guide for Conscious Change, a book I gifted her some years ago. She did an exercise from the book and immediately turned the corner away from the resentment she was feeling towards everyone that the event of grief had ignited. My friend uses Sacred Grief as a resource book. When loss or uncentering occurs for her she says the perfect exercise from the book appears.

Who wouldn’t want a fabulous resource to have around the house that costs less than $20 – a one-time charge to help when the teaching event of grief appears?

AFFIRMATION: I see grief for the teaching tool it is.
